BUMBLE AND OTHER BEES
A Plea for Sanity for Bees
and Me
By Izzy Ess of Honeycomb Sweetness
It seems to me
that bumble bees look big
And fat and
multi-coloured, almost menacing,
When in reality,
they are
The gentle
giants of the insect world.
They rarely sting
unless unreasonably
So provoked that
they will give their lives
To defend
themselves, and all their friends, from
The enemies that
would prevent them from
Their vital work
of pollinating and
Procuring nectar
for the honey combs.
Unfortunately, honey
bees are dying
Out and bumble
bees are now much fewer
In their
populations, having been
Replaced by swarming
killer bees which sting
Their enemies
with vigour and some malice,
Not in
self-defence. The killer bees
May eat the
nectar but are not as organized
As honey bees
which fill the honeycombs
With honey and
support a queen
Bee who is
kindly so inclined to make
More worker bees
and drones to mind the combs
And make more
babies, (for the queen,) who need
The honey for
their nourishment. Perhaps,
The killer bees
who come from Mexico
And warmer
points down south, will rue the day
They came so far
north that it’s very cold
For them and
they have failed to quite accommodate
Like fatter
bumble bees. The Global
Warming may be
at fault, inasmuch
As polar regions
are more warm these days
And killer bees
can roam a little farther
North before
returning to the south.
Perhaps, we need
the present warming cycle
To reverse
before it gets so bad
That bumble bees
and other honey bees
Will disappear
and not return. Meantime,
We could build
artificial bio-domes
For bumble bees
and other friendly honey
Bees so that
Mankind’s supply of honey,
Which can easily
be stored for years,
And still supply
a vital food for everyone,
Including Man
and other bees,
Including bumble
bees. The other thing
That Man could
do is cease consuming oil
And gas, so that
the carbon dioxide,
Which is now at
the all-time highest levels
Since the
dinosaurs, will start declining
And the Global
Warming Cycle will
Reverse and
bring back polar ice caps of
Significance and
thus send back the killer
Bees from whence
they came, allowing bumble
Bees and other
honey bees to be
Successful, once
again. I don’t know the
Real answer, but
I love those bumble bees.
One has never
stung me. They come up close and
They look me
over and decide I am
No threat to
them. And, I am not. I do
Respect them and
admire them, and they know.
THE
END
