THE
SPIRIT OF MY LIFE
An Ode, somewhat like the Odes and Psalms
That Prophets sang so many years ago
By Izzy Ess of possible
knowing-ness
Sweet Moses, when you
freed the Jews from Egypt,
I was freed to come
alive, today.
It was a celebration of
my People
And you sang a song,
the Song of Moses,
Well accompanied by
Miriam
Who played the tambourines
and danced. Oh, thank
You Lot for starting
blood lines that would get
Us David, Saul and
Solomon and Jesus,
Through begetting that
is faithfully
Recorded by the
Bible. Thank you Joshua
For your great efforts
at the walled
Jericho which allowed
the armies of
The Jews to make it to
Jerusalem,
Where Solomon built his
great temple. Thanks
To Esther and her
Mordecai, who bravely
Cornered Achascverus to
protect
The Jews from Haman. She became the Queen
Of Persia. Thanks to all of you, my mother
And my father, who did
make it possible
For me to live so
optimistically
In the Promised Lands,
so full
Of Milk and Honey. Ancient Jewish Spirit
Of my mother’s father,
Yitzchok, who was killed
By Cossacks only after
he and my
Own grandmother had
then produced a brood
Of fourteen children,
half of whom had made
It safely to the land
of Canada.
That Spirit was the
same as Abraham’s
First Jewish son, his
only Isaac, and
It joyously was given
to me by
The God of
Abraham. The other half
Had died of lung
infections, in Ukraine,
In years before there
was The Penicillin,
That would have saved
their lives in the world-
Wide Plagues, the
Epidemics of 1917
And 1918. This strong
Life Spirit of The
Ancient Jews, recorded
Duly in the Pentateuch,
is mine, and I
Have passed it on to my
three children with
A gladness in my heart
for all of them.
It’s only now, at five
and seventy,
That I have somehow
garnered wisdom and
Some small insights
about my Spirit, actually,
Our strong Spirits that have been
Our special forces for
our lives, today
And yesteryear and for
the whole duration
Of our lives and coming
afterlives.
AMEN AND HALLELUJAH!
THE
END
