IN A MANGER

a psalm for today

by izzy ess of happiness

Away in a manger, lay the Son of God;
No one thought the swaddling clothes were really odd.
He grew up big and strong
Without a single wrong --
He sacrificed His life, so everyone applaud.

He knew the future would be bright if Love were King;
He knew that Jobst would manufacture Everything,
Including iPhones and
A Sousa-playing big band
To keep our fingers drumming and to make us sing.

He gave us Hope and Chastity and Ecstasy;
He gave us Gershwin's Rhapsody and Entropy --
He gave us Blues and Jazz
And Sonny, Cher and Chaz
And Al Capone and Alcatraz cacophony.

Imagine, sang John Lennon leading to a shot
That wiped him out before he saw the simple plot
To Right the world
With Wrong unfurled
And not heed I-Like-Ike who warned us all for naught.

I say it's simple folks:
Love will so prevent yokes;
Give all your gold
To young and old...
Pure water, not those Cokes.

Jesus said Love God and Love thy neighbours as thyself;
Forgive them all their sins as they forgive thine.  Put on shelf
Revenge and Hate
And take a mate
And multiply and propagate and spread the Word.  There's HOPE!

AMEN, Brothers and Sisters and Hallelujah!

(C) izzy, welland, today
