O Jesus, Save My Soul

A Lament in sonnettesque effort

By Itzik Pippick ben Reuben, imitating Habakkuk

O Jesus, please send me a Martha like
The one whose flaxen hair You stroked while sitting
On the mount.  O send me my own family
To bicker with and have some fun
Discussing love and hate and fears and angers
And to find my personality
And fit the order of the family,
A stabilizing entity and warm
Security.  O Jesus, let me plan
In peace my sacrifice lest other sinners
Don't repent and don't admit themselves
To Kingdom in the Sky.  O God, why hast
Thou let me down.  However, I must say,
Impoverished, I'm happier today.

THE END
