A DAY IN MAY
an ode in iambic pentametre
by izzy ess from wilderness
Collapsing buildings were the situation
In Capri where earthquakes shook the earth.
Tsunamis hit the shore repeatedly
And tremours were the aftermath of quakes.
A thousand people drowned that day and many
Climbed the mountain trails to get up high
Enough to save their families, to no
Avail. The island nation split in three
And sank below the sea. Five hundred thousand
Folks were lost forever more. Oh what
Was the Creator thinking of, that day?
Was He asleep or did He have a reason
For so many families to die?
Was there some plan to rid the Earth of Evil
Souls of Homo sapiens? Were all
The plants and animals to blame? Demanding
Answers, Mildred died with all the others
On that day in May in Mandalay.
Oh God in Heaven, tell me in my ear
So I can hear and tell the others still
Surviving elsewhere or will days in May
Arrive when I will drown so senselessly?
THE END
