Persephone and Deirdre

[the name game story]

Hermione, Penelope, Persephone

And Deirdre were discussing names

For all their coming female babies, when

Pierre, Adair and Fusilier, the three

Men that they shared between them, made their presence

Known and made their wishes known about

Competing with them for the choice of names

Of their four female children, soon to come.

They argued and the seven adults came

To blows and blood was drawn.  Their neighbours heard

The raucous ruckus and they intervened

Before the knives were drawn, which would have caused

A death, or two, amongst the Super Seven

Would-be parents.  Sweet Samantha Breckenridge,

A single neighbour and a secret lover

Of both old Pierre and young Adair,

Erred in her showing favourites and was

Herself knocked down by tiny Fusilier,

Who felt left out, rejected by Samantha,

Sweetheart of the seventh floor, and more,

The go-to woman of the building.  Crowds

Arrived to get involved, but peace was just

Achieved by everyone’s disrobing, all

At once, which caused a friendliness to fill

The room and quite a lot of mixing, matching

And back-scratching.  Even Fusilier

Succeeded with Samantha, pleasing both

Of them and everyone who was enjoined,

Entwined and otherwise engaged in making

Love and Lust.  Much later, Pride and Gluttony

Appeared, and after that some Envy,

Greed and Sloth.  The Anger that emerged

Became severe and knives were drawn, again.

Well, finally, some peace talks were insinuated

And the children were to have

The names, Hermione, Persephone,

Penelope and Deirdre.  Quel surprise!
